This position will be required to work a full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) schedule.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Performs inspections and repairs of City-owned buildings; reports maintenance problems; performs preventative maintenance Prioritizes, schedules, and completes building maintenance requests and work orders Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repairs, including painting, drywall repair, carpentry, plumbing, locksmithing, and electrical Performs repairs to City facilities relating to HVAC, roofing, and mechanical systems Maintains and repairs playground and fitness equipment and pool equipment, including plumbing, filters, valves, and pumps Completes tasks related to janitorial maintenance, including opening and restocking bathrooms and City facilities; cleans facilities when necessary Schedules, inspects, and reports on the performance of contracted services for janitorial, building maintenance, and security Responds to customer inquiries and service requests via the Resident Service Center program Operates power tools and equipment in a safe manner Works weekends as a regular work schedule in addition to responding to overtime calls that occur after hours, on weekends, and holidays Education and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent One year of experience in the maintenance or repair of buildings, facilities, and equipment Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver license and a safe driving record Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of and the ability to apply principles of general maintenance, including carpentry, drywall repair, painting, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC troubleshooting and repair Ability to operate various small power tools, some heavy equipment, boom lifts, ladders, and other equipment used in the performance of building maintenance Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, outside agencies, and the public Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing and understand written and verbal instructions Entry level computer skills with the ability to effectively respond to citizen inquiries via the Resident Service Center and Microsoft Outlook Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to observe safety principles and work in a safe manner Strong customer service and follow-up skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service to City staff and the public with a positive attitude Ability to take initiative and effectively prioritize and manage time to meet deadlines and complete assigned projects This position requires physical labor, including the ability to bend, squat, lift, and carry and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more Additional Information An online completed City application form is required to apply for this position.

Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.
This position is covered by an existing collective bargaining agreement between the City of Santa Clarita and Service Employees International Union, Local 721, AFL-CIO.
If selected for this position, the employee will be bound by that agreement and may be responsible for paying applicable union dues.
A copy of the Memorandum of Understanding will be provided upon hire.
Compensation includes enrollment in California Public Employees' Retirement System as a replacement for Social Security plus a competitive benefits package.
All appointments are made at step 1 of the salary range unless otherwise authorized by the City Manager.
